Assessment Type 01
Verbal Reasoning
Verbal reasoning assessments test your ability to perform reasoning tasks involving the use of language. Questions range from defining words and providing synonyms, through to identifying the underlying meanings of common words and phrases and answering comprehension questions from a passage of prose.
Some tests include verbal critical reasoning — the ability to understand and interpret information presented in a number of forms, including tables, diagrams, and flowcharts.
Assessment Type 02
Numerical Reasoning
Numerical reasoning assessments test your ability to perform reasoning tasks involving the use of numerical information. Questions range from simple operations in addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division to more specialist questions about number sequences and applied mathematical questions mirroring on-the-job situations.
Some tests include critical reasoning — the ability to understand and interpret numerical information presented in tables, diagrams, and graphs.
Assessment Type 03
Abstract Reasoning
Abstract reasoning assessments test your ability to identify patterns presented in diagrammatic form — patterns that are not dependent on learned verbal or numerical modes of thinking. These assessments measure your ability to solve conceptual problems and think logically.
Abstract reasoning is considered a strong indicator of fluid intelligence — your capacity to reason in new situations regardless of prior knowledge.
Assessment Type 04
Diagrammatic Reasoning
Diagrammatic assessments test the ability to evaluate processes represented through diagrams. Questions contain panels and illustrations that define logical processes, and items that require you to use the information provided to identify outcomes or complete sequences.
These assessments are particularly relevant for roles requiring systematic, process-driven thinking.
Assessment Type 05
Mechanical Reasoning
Mechanical reasoning assesses your basic understanding of mechanical concepts, your ability to visualise the movement of objects through space, and your understanding of cause-effect relationships between mechanical components.
These assessments are widely used in selection for roles in engineering, trades, construction, utilities, and safety-critical operational environments.
Assessment Type 06
Personality
Personality profiles help potential employers understand how you might fit into a team and how you might behave under given circumstances. Personality questionnaires are typically untimed.
Questions are presented in a number of formats. Sometimes you might think a question is being asked more than once, or asked once in the negative and once in the positive. The best advice is to answer as spontaneously and honestly as possible — most personality assessments can identify inconsistent answers. In any event, who says your personality isn't precisely the one that suits the job?
Assessment Type 07
Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence (EI) assessments measure your ability to recognise, understand, and manage your own emotions as well as the emotions of others. These assessments are used to understand how you might respond to workplace situations, collaborate with colleagues, and lead under pressure.
Like personality questionnaires, EI assessments are typically untimed and questions are best answered honestly — the most effective responses reflect your genuine reactions, not what you think is expected.
